Must have knowledge of the theory and method of archeological research and knowledge of the theory and method of professional research diving in order to blend archeological and research diving skills into a meaningful submerged cultural resource management program. Such knowledge is used to assist in planning, carrying out, and evaluating submerged cultural resources and assist in studies and assessing the value and quality of investigative results; and to evaluate the significance and proper management or interpretive treatment of submerged archeological resources. A professional knowledge of anthropological and archeological theory, methods, and techniques is required so that the incumbent comprehends the reasons for implementing field and archeological sampling techniques. Knowledge of marine architecture and maritime history. Must be able to conduct library research on general and specific topics related to marine history, vessel history, general and economic history and archeological method and past work. Knowledge of the study of submerged landscapes for identification of pre-Contact archaeological resources. Ability to use and interpret the results of a variety of diagnostic and test equipment such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, intermediate pressure gauges, etc. to solve in-field equipment problems Ability to plan, supervise/direct, and complete marine remote sensing archeological projects within the scope and specifications provided by the project director or higher level archeologist. Ability to gather accurate and precise remote sensing survey data from marine contexts via use of hardware such as side scan sonar, single or multibeam echo sounders, magnetometers and bottom classification instruments

We are seeking a dynamic, highly-qualified leader for the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum.  On land, on water and underwater, LCMM offers an amazing array of programs, exhibits and learning experiences, underwater discoveries and lake adventures that engage people of all ages in the rich history and archaeology of Lake Champlain.  LCMM hosts over 11,000 people annually in its fourteen exhibit buildings and on its working waterfront in Ferrisburgh, Vermont.  The 1776 replica gunboat Philadelphia II is a favourite with visitors.  The Schooner Lois McClure has travelled over the last ten years to New York, Canada and Vermont, educating over 20,000 people per year about the lakes history.  Innovative boat building, after-school rowing programs, On-Water ecology classes and teacher training are part of the mix.  Our Maritime Research Institute engages in world-class nautical archaeology projects, exploring and documenting the lakes 300+ historic shipwrecks and other underwater cultural sites. . . . And then there are shipwreck tours at beautiful Basin Harbor and the Burlington waterfront, where you dont get wet using remotely operated vehicle technology.

Maritime Project Officer

In response to our growing reputation in the offshore renewables sector Headland Archaeology would like to further enhance our maritime and marine team by appointing a Maritime Project Officer. Over the past couple of years our marine services department has witnessed an increased workload and has enjoyed a growing reputation for providing high quality marine services for large scale projects throughout the UK and Ireland and we are currently undertaking offshore projects in the territorial waters of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and France. We would like to recruit an individual who can add to our team and further strengthen our current marine-based capacity.

The successful applicant will join Headlands Consultancy team in Edinburgh and contribute towards the production of Cultural Heritage/ Environmental Impact Assessments and similar documents. A good knowledge and experience of marine heritage issues would be a definite advantage, but we would also consider people with the ability to assess marine geophysical data and use the associated software packages (including ArcGIS).

Marine Archaeologist

Project Marine Archaeologist -Lafayette, LA (FGSI)

Interpret high resolution remotely sensed survey data, providing data for map generation, technical writing of data results and findings, and aiding Geologists and Geophysicists with project deliverables (maps, files, and reports) in support of client’s underwater engineering projects.

Must have a completed MA/MS degree or higher in Archaeology or Marine Archaeology, Maritime History, or Related degree

· Possess/demonstrate interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, excellent writing skills, and organizational skills.
· Must possess minimum qualifications for BOEM acceptance to perform archaeological duties independently.
· Must be able to multitask and work as a team member in an office and aboard survey ships.
· A minimum of 5 years experience in marine geohazards site investigation, or 5 to 10 years of relevant full-time professional experience is required.
· Must meet all physical requirements for offshore certification.
· Must be able to travel offshore and secure passport/visas for travel.
