Executive Director Albacore Park Portsmouth, New Hampshire The Portsmouth Submarine Memorial Association (PSMA) seeks a replacement for its Executive Director who is retiring. This is a hands-on position for the only full-time employee of PSMA. No development or fund raising activities are involved. PSMA owns a 7-acre park in Portsmouth where the historic submarine USS ALBACORE is on display in a dry basin and where a small museum and gift shop is also located. The park is staffed by the Director and several part-time employees, who support ongoing interpretation to the 30,000 plus annual park visitors. The Director is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the submarine, park, museum and gift shop and to support the Board of Directors, many of whose members are actively involved in facility and submarine maintenance. The ideal candidate will have experience in all aspects of marketing and managing a small museum with a gift shop including inventory control and point-of-sales record keeping. Purpose of Position This position is responsible for delivering an ongoing program of creative and innovative exhibits that attract diverse audiences, introduce new scholarship and content, and increase attendance. It is responsible for the administration of all activities relating to the quality and effectiveness of the Exhibits department. This position will support general Museum operations with effective and timely communication and open dialog across departments for exhibit creation and special events such as previews and openings. Essential Functions: Communication and Teamwork • Shares the responsibility for improving the quality and effectiveness of exhibits and for insuring that education and broad access is central to these exhibitions. Leadership • Provides creative leadership to the department staff encouraging cooperation and teamwork. • Participates actively in the management of the Museum with Department Directors and the Management Committee. • Establishes and maintains professional relationships and memberships in professional associations to stay abreast of the latest trends in the Museum field. Maritime Archaeology Scholarship

Honor Frost Foundation Scholarship for Master¹s students at the University of Cyprus (£ 10,000)

The scholarship is aimed at the students in the programme (Field Archaeology on Land and under the Sea), regardless of their admission year. The successful candidate must demonstrate a genuine interest in maritime archaeology and a clear intention to write a dissertation about a maritime subject, preferably concerning the eastern Mediterranean.

Only one scholarship per year is offered.

Entry requirements:

Selection will be based on ranking of the applicant’s previous diplomas as well as on their ability to convince the committee of their capacity to conduct research of high standards. Experience in maritime archaeology projects will be considered as an additional qualification.

Application procedure:

Applications are invited every year in October with a deadline of January 31st of the following year. The results are announced within a month, i.e. in February.

The application should be in English and include the following:

Curriculum Vitae.

A research statement (up to 600 words) where the candidate¹s special interest in maritime archaeology should be explained.

Previous diplomas or distinctions.

Two reference letters from academics or field archaeologists, preferably with a maritime background.

The committee holds the right not to award a scholarship in any given year, if none of the candidates has the required qualifications.

The grant will be given in three (3) payments:

(i) £3,000 before the term starts;

(ii) £3,000 after the first three courses are successfully completed, with
an average mark of at least 7.5/10;

(iii) £4,000 after the remaining three courses are successfully completed,
with an average mark of at least 7.5/10.

The primary objective of the position holder is to be a part of the Heritage Division Maritime Archaeology Team and to assist in the implementation of NSW Government Maritime Archaeology Program, the Office of Environment & Heritage Corporate Plan, and the NSW component of the National Historic Shipwreck Program activities.

1.    Tertiary Degree in Archaeology, Maritime Archaeology or a relevant university discipline
2.    Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, the assessment of maritime heritage items and an understanding of the relevant legislative framework.
3.    Sound knowledge and interest in the needs, issues and problems relating to underwater heritage conservation and familiarity with current best practices, guidelines and policies in cultural heritage conservation.
4.    Proven ability to be able to work in a team environment.
5.    Experience in project management, including balancing priorities and meeting deadlines
6.    Proven communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
7.    Current driver’s licence.

Naval History and Heritage Command Curator Branch

This position is located in the Collection Management Section, Curator Branch, Collection Management Division, Naval History and Heritage Command, located at the Defense Supply Center in Richmond, VA. The Curator Branch is responsible for the management of Navy properties of historical and inspirational value, including artifacts, shipboard equipment, ordnance, uniforms and memorabilia. This responsibility encompasses acquiring, accessioning, preserving, storing, accounting for, and loaning to eligible recipients the properties in the Navy’s historical collections.

Curator RAN Maritime Archaeology

This position sits within the Research and Curatorial section as part of the Public Engagement and Research Branch. Working closely with the Manager Maritime Archaeology, the position contributes to ANMM’s strategic objective to be acknowledged as the nation’s leading authority on maritime archaeology, heritage and affairs both within Australia and abroad.
The position contributes significantly to maintaining a close relationship with the Royal Australian Navy, Department of Veterans Affairs and other external stakeholders. The position provides advice to ANMM’s Executive on matters relating to naval affairs and is responsible for aspects of the National Maritime Collection relating to the Royal Australian Navy.
The position takes a leading role in interpretation of the Museum’s naval collection and ensures that the museum observes key naval and commemorative dates appropriately. The position takes a lead role in liaising with naval stakeholders, keeping them informed of our activities and seeking their advice, support and involvement where appropriate.
