Among the tender requirements are the preparation of an archaeological heritage impact assessment report and a potential impact assessment project, both onshore and offshore.

“In addition to the usual archaeological research carried out in land sections for the purpose of environmental licensing, subsea archaeological research will also be conducted for the SEAP project,” Petrobras told Upstream.

The studies, according to Petrobras, will be based on hydro graphic data with the use of autonomous underwater vehicles capable of operating in water depths of up to 3000 metres.

“In case there is the need to recover any artefact on the seabed, remotely operated vehicles must be used and, for this purpose, specific vessels adapted for launching ROVs will be utilised,” Petrobras added.

CreaMare – Open Call for Creative Professionals

The CREAMARE project will involve marine archaeologists, ocean scientists, and creative industry experts, such as graphic designers, 3D artists, level designers, and sound designers. Together, they will co-produce a Serious Game focused on Underwater Cultural Heritage and Ocean Literacy.

About the Serious Game
This game will allow players to explore highly realistic 3D digital models of eight underwater cultural sites. Players will visit these sites to solve riddles and face challenges related to cultural heritage and environmental threats, such as oil spills from shipwrecks and ghost nets damaging marine life.

The game story takes place in a dystopian future, where scientists, while attempting to combat marine pollution, inadvertently created a mutated creature that now threatens the deep sea and its hidden treasures. To protect UCH, players must fight the source of pollution by resolving some ecological issues and bringing back historical artifacts to their belonging sites. Selected candidates will receive the detailed storyboard after signing a cooperation agreement.

To whom this call is addressed

Underwater Archaeologist Salary

Seems a bit low to me.

How much does an Underwater Archaeologist make?

As of Jun 20, 2023, the average annual pay for an Underwater Archaeologist in the United States is $52,459 a year.

Just in case you need a simple salary calculator, that works out to be approximately $25.22 an hour. This is the equivalent of $1,008/week or $4,371/month.

While ZipRecruiter is seeing annual salaries as high as $83,000 and as low as $28,000, the majority of Underwater Archaeologist salaries currently range between $46,500 (25th percentile) to $57,000 (75th percentile) with top earners (90th percentile) making $69,500 annually across the United States. The average pay range for an Underwater Archaeologist varies greatly (by as much as $10,500), which suggests there may be many opportunities for advancement and increased pay based on skill level, location and years of experience.

Based on recent job posting activity on ZipRecruiter, the Underwater Archaeologist job market in both Pensacola, FL and throughout the entire state of Florida is not very active as few companies are currently hiring. An Underwater Archaeologist in your area makes on average $57,678 per year, or $3 (0%) more than the national average annual salary of $52,459. Professor in Preservation of Underwater Cultural Heritage The use of natural sciences to study and enable the preservation of archaeological materials deposited underwater has a long tradition in Denmark. The National Museum of Denmark has been a pioneering institution since the 1960s in both the development of underwater archaeological techniques and conservation of underwater finds. Through research into archaeological materials deposited underwater, it has been possible to identify the various cultural and natural (physical, chemical and biological) threats to this heritage in order to document their effects and where possible develop sustainable strategies to preserve these sites. Furthermore, in a rapidly changing ocean environment and increasing human exploitation of the marine environment, it is necessary to develop new concepts for assessing and preserving this resource. It is with this background that the National Museum wishes to create a permanent professorship in the preservation of underwater cultural heritage, in order to strengthen and further develop research in this area and to highlight and preserve Denmark´s rich underwater cultural heritage.

Job description

M23AS00328 GM-22-05: Reevaluating BOEM’s Guidelines for Identifying Submerged Pre-Contact Archaeological Sites in the Gulf of Mexico. Department of the Interior. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management

https://www.grants.gov/web/grants/view-opportunity.html?oppId=348481

Submerged pre-contact sites on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) are difficult to identify and confirm using traditional mapping technologies and BOEM’s current survey guidelines.  BOEM errs on the side of caution by assigning avoidance mitigations to potential, but unconfirmed, paleolandscapes that may or may not contain preserved archaeological features.  This results in avoidance of areas that may not warrant exclusion from OCS activities across BOEM’s three program areas.  Additionally, the identification and preservation of submerged pre-contact cultural resources are frequently cited as priorities by Native American Tribes in BOEM’s government-to-government consultations.

The objectives of this study are to: Develop updated and refined regional paleolandscape reconstructions to identify areas with a higher preservation potential for submerged pre-contact archaeological remains. Design, test the efficacy of, and compare results from revised survey methodologies conducted in geologically distinct areas of the GOM to recommend best practices to better detect and delineate preserved paleolandforms and assess their likelihood of containing archaeological materials. Recommend more effective methodologies and revisions to BOEM’s current survey guidelines for submerged paleolandscapes in the GOM Region. This study will assess the currently available data and known or potential locations for submerged pre-contact sites in the GOM and will compile a geospatial database including preservation potential (and lack of potential), estimated age of landforms, depth of burial, and other pertinent information.  This study will also conduct geophysical surveys and investigations of potential submerged archaeological features in geologically and environmentally distinct areas in the northern GOM for a comparative analysis of methodologies (at a minimum, areas in the eastern GOM and western GOM).
