Opportunity to join a terrestrial/submerged archaeology field school at Wakulla Springs, Florida — a unique landscape with human history dating over 12,000 years! The field school begins with terrestrial excavations investigating late Pleistocene to early Holocene human activities, and continues to submerged locations in the area. Students will be exposed to terrestrial and underwater excavation techniques, remote sensing, and geophysical techniques! Students do not need to be divers to participate, but in order to join dive operations the student must prove they have scientific a dive certification (preferably AAUS). The 4 th edition of ARS NAUTICA Seafaring through the Ages Course Workshop will be held in the Inter University Centre in Dubrovnik from 17 to 24 June 2018. The international event entitled Photogrammetry in Underwater Archaeological Research – Theory and Practice is conceived as an intense theoretical and practical course which will allow the participants to develop their own photogrammetric skills in documenting underwater archaeological sites and monitoring advancement of underwater archaeological excavations. Situated in the immediate vicinity of the charming mediaeval town of Dubrovnik, the Inter University Centre offers quiet and creative working atmosphere, and excellent logistics for the accommodation of all the participants.
We invite you to join us in this beautiful place, and to benefit from the great experience of the main lecturer Kotaro Yamafune, gained through intense fieldwork all over the world. The Department of Archaeology at the University of Southampton seeks to appoint a Senior Research Fellow in Maritime Archaeology or Maritime Anthropology to work with Dr R. Helen Farr on an ERC grant. The successful candidate will have experience of maritime ethnographic research, knowledge of ethical and political guidelines for best practice for research into indigenous communities, and an interest in Australasian and Island SouthEast Asian archaeology.
By the date of the appointment the successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant subject area, and a strong publication record.

The International Centre for Underwater Archaeology (ICUA), category 2 centre under the auspices of UNESCO, in Zadar, is organizing Advanced Underwater Archaeology Course. The course will take place in the Zadar area, from 28th May to 2nd June 2018.
The course will consist of theoretical and practical (hands on) instruction in techniques of underwater archaeological excavation, recording, data processing and the use of new technologies in underwater documentation. Archaeologists from the ICUA and guest lecturers will conduct theoretical lessons. Practical instruction will take place in the context of underwater archaeological surveys of ancient shipwrecks in the area surrounding Zadar and will teach participants what it means to be part of an underwater archaeological excavation team.
The course is aimed at archaeologists who have diving experience and at least some basic experience of practical underwater archaeology. It is designed to provide participants with advanced skills and training in underwater archaeology and basic project planning.

Archaeology Field School hosted by Lake Champlain Maritime Museum offers a mix of both instruction and hands-on underwater research. The 2018 Field School will continue to investigate and document an unidentified shipwreck in Basin Harbor, Vermont.
The diving sessions will teach practical underwater skills using both traditional documentation techniques and cutting-edge technology on an historic shipwreck.
Through additional academic lectures and labs, participants will study legal practices, learn about local history, and participate in artifact conservation. Students should have completed Basic Open Water SCUBA as a prerequisite for this course.
The Koç University Mustafa V. Koç Maritime Archaeology Research Center (KUDAR) and Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations (ANAMED) joint fellowship will support one post-doctoral scholar specializing in Maritime Archaeology or a closely-related topic for the 2018 – 2019 nine-month academic year (September 17th to June 15th). The successful applicant is required to reside in Istanbul during the fellowship period, to devote his or her time to a proposed research project, and to deliver two lectures on their original research. The fellowship provides one round-trip ticket to Istanbul, accommodation at ANAMED in Istanbul’s Beyoğlu neighborhood, five meals a week, and a monthly stipend. While in residence, the successful applicant will be able to take advantage of a limited research budget, the ANAMED seminar and study rooms, library resources within the Koç University system, and access to nearby research centers such as the Deutsches Archäologisches Institut, the Institut Français d’Études Anatoliennes, and the Instituto Italiano di Cultura. Applications from scholars of all nationalities are encouraged, but fellows must be proficient in English, the language of instruction at Koç University.

UNESCO is calling for consultancy related to the Underwater Cultural Heritage (UCH) protection and management in the five countries in Micronesia and to provide recommendations for strategic actions towards ratification of UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage (2001 Convention).
The consultants (2 persons) will gather, review, synthetize and analyze; i) UCH-related policy/laws/legislation, and ii) UCH-related programmes/initiatives both in the public and civil society sectors, in FSM, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, and Palau, in order to provide recommendations for strategic actions towards their ratification/implementation of the UCH Convention.

Each year, the Lighthouse Archaeological Maritime Program (LAMP) oversees an intense, four week accredited educational program allowing both undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to participate in a marine survey and underwater excavation of a historic shipwreck site. In addition to methodological training and academic lectures, students get valuable real-world experience in all aspects of archaeological fieldwork, scientific diving and seamanship and laboratory analysis.
LAMP has partnered with a variety of universities, including Flinders University, Florida State University, Syracuse University and Plymouth State University, to organize and implement this four-credit course. For the 2018 Field School, four hours of graduate or undergraduate credit are available through Plymouth State University.
