The Foundation’s mission is to promote the advancement and research, including publication, of maritime archaeology with particular focus on the eastern Mediterranean.  The Foundation is keen to support educational opportunities for students from the primary regions where Honor worked and is supporting a fully funded scholarship in Maritime Archaeology for students from Cyprus, Lebanon and Syria to attend the University of Southampton commencing in September 2018.

The scholarship is primarily for study at MA/MSc level with the possibility of further funding for PhD, but may also be offered at PhD level if there are suitable candidates. This award is only available to students from Cyprus, Lebanon and Syria.

American Conservation Experience, a Non-Profit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service is seeking ONE CRDIP DHA Preservation Intern interested in dedicating 11 weeks in support of the National Park Service at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park in San Francisco, CA.

This is an excellent opportunity to provide critical support to two artifact watercraft preservation projects planned for 2018 on Hyde St. Pier at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park through state-of-the-art project documentation, regular publication of project updates and background history on Park media, and the production of an official preservation project report for the Park’s official.

Maryland Historical Trust Internship

The Maryland Historical Trust is seeking candidates for its 2018 Summer Internship in Archeology. Interns serve a maximum of 400 hours over a period of 10 consecutive weeks to begin on or about May 21, 2018. Current graduate students in anthropology/archeology are preferred; students currently enrolled in or who have recently graduated from an accredited undergraduate program in anthropology/archeology or other closely related field are encouraged to apply.

The intern will work under the general supervision of the Chief Archeologist and time will be divided between office/laboratory and field work in support of the Trust’s terrestrial and maritime archeology programs.

Interns will receive a total amount not to exceed $5000.00 paid in bi-weekly increments based on the number of hours worked at a rate of $12.50 per hour.

Successful completion of an archeological field school or equivalent and familiarity with ArcGIS are required.

Maritime Archaeology Track (MA and PhD)
Department of Archaeology and History of Art
The College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Koç University is inaugurating a
new Maritime Archaeology Track in the Department of Archaeology and History of Art
beginning in the Fall semester of 2018. Courses will provide students with a solid
grounding in the practical methods of fieldwork and conservation, as well as the
theoretical approaches used in maritime archaeology. MA and PhD students admitted to the Maritime Archaeology Track in Koç University’s Department of Archaeology and History of Art will be eligible for two to four years of tuition waivers and other benefits (depending on degree plan) as well as a possible monthly stipend.
Graduate students will have opportunities for archaeological fieldwork, post-excavation processing and analysis of artifacts, or artifact conservation work, and enrolled students may be able to participate in faculty-led projects in Turkey and Italy.

Job Description Summary

Michigan Technological University is bolstering its strength in water-related research and educational programs with a new faculty position that may reside in any academic unit. We solicit applications for a tenure-track position in oceanography/limnology with specific expertise in one or more of the following research approaches: laboratory and ship-based research; remote sensing; policy analysis; or large-scale computational modeling. The ability to conduct field or laboratory measurements and experimentation in addition to modeling skills will be viewed positively. The position is expected to be filled at the Assistant Professor level, but senior-level candidates with exceptional records will also be considered.

This position complements existing expertise in aquatic sciences, engineering, economics, and policy at the multidisciplinary Great Lakes Research Center (GLRC). The GLRC is a 50,000 sq. ft., $25M waterfront facility with state-of-the-art laboratories, marine facilities, and a supercomputer facility (see http://greatlakes.mtu.edu). Great Lakes Posting

The Northeast Michigan Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative (NEMIGLSI) is a partner of the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary that conducts place-based stewardship educational programming. Franklin Expedition RFP

The Contractor will work collaboratively with Inuit knowledge-holders, community members and Parks Canada experts to summarize, conduct and share oral history research related to Inuit knowledge of the 1845 Franklin Expedition and the wrecks of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror.

The objectives of the project are:

  1. To conduct a bibliographical, archival and oral history research project into Inuit oral history of the 1845 Franklin expedition, and specifically the associated shipwreck sites of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror
  2. To produce professional interpretive materials—including video clips, audio clips, and a book—for Parks Canada on this topic. These materials will help Parks Canada present to the public a history of Inuit knowledge of the Franklin expedition, and will contribute to an understanding of the shipwreck sites as part of Inuit homelands.
  3. To provide opportunities for Inuit Elders to share their knowledge about the 1845 Franklin Expedition and to document that knowledge.
  4. To provide capacity-building opportunities for Inuit youth and adults related to oral history collection and presentation.
