Gray & Pape, a national and international cultural heritage management (CRM) firm, is seeking a Geoarchaeologist to join the Archaeology practice in Providence, RI. The expected salary range for this role is $55,000-$75,000. This role is full-time, regular status, exempt position. Summary of the Role:

The Geoarchaeologist is responsible for conducting and overseeing all aspects of offshore and onshore archaeological and geoarchaeological studies. This includes archaeological, cultural, historical, and environmental research; literature reviews and desktop assessments; archaeological reconnaissance and due diligence surveys;  geomorphological modeling and testing; geological sample analysis; archaeological, cultural, and historical artifact and laboratory analysis; preparation of archaeological, cultural, historical, and environmental contexts; Phase I archeological surveys; Phase II archaeological testing and evaluation; Phase III archaeological excavation, data recovery, and mitigation; preparation of a variety of archaeological documentation and technical reports; and preparing artifacts and records for curation. 

Required Qualifications

1. M.A./M.S. in Anthropology, Archaeology, Geology, Geography, or a closely related field. If the M.A./M.S. is in Geology or Geography, a B.A./B.S. in Anthropology or Archaeology is preferred.
2. 5 years of CRM supervisory and lead author CRM report preparation experience.
3. Qualified to register as an RPA with the Register of Professional Archaeologists.
4. Familiarity with field geospatial software such as ESRI ArcMap and Google Earth.
5. Technological skills: ESRI Survey 123 and Collector, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat.
6. Traditional and digital mapping, including total station and GPS-based mapping skills; photography; survey techniques; and excavation techniques.
7. Ability to analyze data such as statistical analysis, material culture analysis, and geomorphological analysis.
8. Basic understanding of the legal framework of CRM.
9. Basic understanding of the National Register of Historic Places Criteria and their application.
10. Experience directing field crews.
11. Demonstrable report writing experience.
12. Experience working within report templates and following style guides.
13. Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and tasks concurrently.
14. Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate work within schedule and budget constraints.
15. Demonstrated ability to independently design and complete research.
16. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.

1. Experience with GIS software.

Cardinal Point Captains, Inc. (CPC) is seeking an experienced and qualified individual to provide support for research and scuba diving operations for NOAA’s Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary (FGBNMS) in Galveston, TX. The FGBNMS conducts frequent, multi-day, offshore research operations aboard live-aboard vessels, primarily on board the Research Vessel (R/V) Manta R-8301. 

Employees will participate in research operations, including conducting scuba operations for research and management, deck and other scuba diving support activities, mobilization and demobilization for at-sea expeditions, meet and maintain NOAA diving standards, post process field imagery, assist with cruise and project reporting, assist with mooring buoy maintenance, participate in weekly research meetings, participate in assigned outreach events, and participate in training that supports the goals and needs of the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary in Galveston, TX. The individual must maintain a professional demeanor and work closely and collegially with colleagues and other researchers.

It is currently anticipated that this role will be a seasonal, temporary role to supplement the team’s existing dive capabilities at the marine sanctuary during the summer through fall. The majority of this work (75% or more) will be conducted offshore, away from Galveston, with limited communications while aboard R/V Manta.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Marine Resource Management, Biology, Geology, Environmental Studies, Maritime Archaeology, electrical or mechanical engineering or related scientific fields.
• Logged at least 100 scuba dives, including 12 dives within the past 12 months
• Advanced and rescue dive certifications
• Current first aid/ CPR/ AED/ Oxygen Administration certification
• Able to pass NOAA dive physical
• Able to participate in frequent offshore, multi-day field work, involving overnight stays aboard the vessel
• Able to operate a government vehicle
• Able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds to assist transporting equipment and gear is required
• Willing to work non-standard hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
• Familiarity and experience with coral reef monitoring and coral reef biology and ecology with experience in the collection of biological and ecological data
• Desirable qualifications include:
• NOAA diving or AAUS certification

Position Summary

The Maritime Archeology Program works to research, document, promote, and preserve the maritime archeological legacy of Wisconsin. This professional position works together with the Senior Maritime Archeologist, under supervision of the State Archeologist. Work is performed with a great deal of independence; there is minimal direct oversight. The position requires extensive travel and a seasonal work schedule exceeding 40 hours per week. The position will require physically working, conducting exploration, and completing fieldwork in Wisconsin waters, including the Great Lakes.

The position promotes the maritime program and educates consultants, public officials, and the public about Wisconsin’s maritime history, shipwrecks and the maritime landscape through multi-faceted public outreach, including participation in national and regional maritime conferences, presentations throughout Wisconsin, and training. The incumbent will conduct and direct underwater archeological fieldwork and monitoring. Together with the senior maritime archeologist they will work under the direction of the State Archeologist to develop task lists and priorities and will carry them out with the assistance of interns, volunteers or other archeologists. The incumbent is responsible for daily completion of field tasks, project notes and maps, and for proper maintenance of project equipment. The incumbent will also conduct historical research; complete technical report writing and National Register of Historic Places nominations based upon the archeological and archival research; provide volunteer training; monitor the program grants and budgets; and complete other project­ related tasks.

Salary Information

The salary will be between $25 – $29 per hour ($52,000 to $60,320 annually) in accordance with the provisions of the current Compensation Plan. This position is in pay schedule 13, range 04; civil service classification is Archeologist.  A twelve-month probationary period will be required.

The NPS Mellon Humanities Postdoctoral Fellowship Program places recent humanities PhDs with NPS sites and programs across the agency. In collaboration with NPS staff and partners, the incoming cohort of fifteen (15) Fellows will contribute to planning and preparation for America at 250, an initiative inspired by the semi-quincentennial of the Declaration of Independence. This event provides an opportunity for the NPS to tell a more inclusive story of the American past and present. The NPS is committed to exploring the full complexity of our history, even if that history is uncomfortable, contested, or erased. The humanities research supported by this Fellowship will expand these efforts, encouraging creative approaches to documentation, interpretation, and outreach.

Host Description: This fellowship is placed with War in the Pacific National Historical Park in Guam and American Memorial Park on Saipan. These World War II focused parks work to share the stories of the conflict in the Pacific as told by those who experienced it on these islands. Guam is the headquarters location for both parks.

ACE is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing rewarding environmental service opportunities for young adults and emerging professionals of all backgrounds to explore and improve public lands while gaining practical professional experience. The EPIC NPS Division works alongside the National Park Service across the United States, from Alaska to Puerto Rico, to support the NPS in its mission to “preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations” while providing career promoting individual placement opportunities.

Position Description: War in the Pacific National Historical Park and American Memorial Park are seeking one postdoctoral fellow to conduct an inventory of existing oral history work, develop an annotated bibliography of the collection, propose options for the most effective way to share these resources with NPS staff, partners and the public, and conduct a training on the collection. The Fellow will also work with the interpretive teams at both parks to develop interpretive products and programs highlighting the resource.

Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Museum Curator I is responsible for managing the museum volunteer program by recruiting eligible and qualified citizens to assist with information desk operations, Watercraft Center operations, and museum events and programs. Volunteers may include working or retired citizens and approved students. The Museum Curator I will coordinate, develop, and implement education programs that fit the museums mission. They will provide program opportunities to the public and special groups, such as schools, civic groups, and professionals. Programs will take place in the museum setting, in the field, and as outreach in the local community or statewide. The Museum Curator I will assist with registration of participants for programs, and effectively communicate with museum guests and program participants to disseminate information about learning opportunities with the museum. This position will assist higher level curators with implementation of museum programs and events, and daily operations of the education section.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the museum volunteer program to include recruiting and retaining eligible and qualified persons to staff the museum lobby desk, work in the Watercraft Center, and assist with educational programs and events.
• Set schedules of volunteers to suit museum and program needs and create periodic newsletters to keep volunteers informed about museum operations.
• Develop and conduct educational programs and activities for visiting school groups, summer camps, and tour groups.
• Develop training and enrichment opportunities for volunteers to ensure dissemination of accurate information to museum guests, and to retain volunteers.
• Work with facilities and Watercraft Center staff to offer safety and emergency training opportunities for volunteers.
• Assist education staff with the Summer Science School program, processing program registrations, coordinating the work of instructors and interns, and with daily operations of the education section.
• Keep statistics on daily program attendance and submit monthly reports for records.

Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday, with some evening and weekend work required. 

Some telework hours may be permitted with supervisor and department approval.

Mobilising cultural heritage in UK marine fisheries – PhD studentship

The Submerged Lands and Environmental Resource Coordination (SLERC) program is accepting applications for a full-time career service Historic Preservationist position. The SLERC program is responsible for the consistent implementation of the State 404 and Environmental Resource Permitting (ERP) programs statewide.  The Historic Preservationist will act in conjunction with the Department, State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO), Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Tribes to coordinate the protection of historic properties associated with the Department’s permitting process. This position will also be responsible for advising FDEP regarding matters of compliance, enforcement, and long-term planning in support of the State 404 Program.

The Historic Preservationist works with department staff to ensure projects meet the agencies strict regulatory and environmental standards protecting wetlands, water quality, and historic resources. The Historic Preservationist also works with managers to plan and prioritize activities and projects in line with DEP’s strategic objectives and find integrated solutions on a variety of organizational challenges.

• Consulting and coordinating with the Department, EPA, Tribes, and State/Tribal Historic Preservation Officers (SHPO/THPO);
• Serving as the Department’s leading expert on alternatives to avoid potential effects to historic properties and alternatives to mitigate or minimize potential effects to historic properties;
• Assisting Division and District Offices with required consultation procedures;
