 The incumbent serves as the Chief of the Drawings and Graphics Support Section, Technical Information Management Branch, ESD.  The incumbent oversees the preparation, publishing, and management of 220,000 technical engineering drawings for the USCG fleet; and includes the coordination, monitoring, distribution, storage, and retirement of these drawings.
Typical work assignments include:
-Reviews, edits, amends, maintains, issues, and otherwise manages the distribution of all Naval Engineering technical drawings relating to the maintenance of naval Engineering systems on all classes of cutters and standard boats.
-Maintains Information Handling Services cassettes, CD-ROM disks and operating system for national, international, and military specification, vendor catalog services, Naval directives and instructions, industry standards, and EPA standards. –Coordinates and plans for the retirement and storage of Technical cutter and boat plans with the Coast Guard Historian as cutters and boats are removed from inventory.

TerraSond’s summer work load has necessitated the search for a seasonal Jr. Survey Technician. Under supervision of the Houston Office Manager, Project Managers and senior Survey Technicians, the Junior Survey Technician is responsible for assisting with conducting and processing surveys to ascertain the locations of natural features and man-made structures on the Earth’s surface and underwater using electronic measuring equipment and other surveying instruments. Duties include assisting the Houston manager with survey related tasks, including data processing, reporting, data presentation, field survey, and daily administrative tasks.  Will participate in the production of deliverables, proof reading reports, creation of data examples and tables, help keep the office in order, testing equipment, computers and software, and any other tasks designated by Houston Manager.  This position is a temporary, hourly, summer position based in Houston, Texas and requires travel. Residency inside of the greater Houston metro area is mandatory.

The intern will work a flexible part-time schedule of Tuesday-Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours. A small stipend is available. The intern will have the opportunity to experience all aspects of managing a small community maritime museum. Responsibilities also will include assisting with special activities, such as the annual Chowda’ Fest and three Lighthouse Weekends. Ships: Research, Recording and Reconstruction, 17-23 September 2012

There are still places available in the Flinders University intensive topic Ships: Research, Recording and Reconstruction scheduled from 17 to 23 September 2012.
This topic provides students with the theoretical and practical training necessary for researching ships and ship construction. Students will develop an in-depth knowledge of recording, representing and interpreting ship construction. Students should expect to learn nautical terminology, the basic components of a ship and activities aboard, principles of ship construction and rigging, procedures for taking and drafting ship lines and construction plans, hull analysis, procedures for graphic representation of hulls and principles of reconstructing ships.  This topic is challenging, demanding and hands-on—students are expected to participate fully in problem-solving exercises.

The course is open to non-Flinders student for the cost of tuition. Credit for the course may be applied to home universities. This is a great opportunity for staff development training for current practicing professionals. For more details and to apply to the field school please see:

1) Shoreline Management Specialist, NC Department of Environment & Natural Resources, closes 4 May

This position provides policy, planning and analysis support to the Coastal Resources Commission, Coastal Resources Advisory Council, and DCM staff on a variety of issues and special projects.  The position is responsible for researching state of the art changes in science and management approaches as they relate to coastal and ocean management issues, with an emphasis on estuarine and ocean shoreline analysis. This position has specific responsibility for providing technical expertise as it relates to evaluating rules and policies addressing coastal hazards and geologic/oceanographic processes.  The position provides technical analysis to the Division and Coastal Resources Commission on a variety of shoreline management projects that involve the Inlet Hazard and Ocean Hazard Areas of Environmental Concern including rule development, preparation of the Division’s justifications and fiscal analyses of proposed rules. The position has a contributing role in ensuring that the Coastal Resources Commission’s proposed and amended rules capture the Commission’s intent, are internally consistent, and are prepared in compliance with enabling statutes and the NC Administrative Procedures Act (APA).  The position provides technical assistance and analysis related to the review and permitting of beach nourishment projects including post-project monitoring, and adherence to permit conditions.  The position will also provide technical input and analysis to support implementation of the NC Beach and Inlet Management Plan. This position also provides the primary staff support to the CRAC. Some field work and travel is necessary.
