Roles & Responsibilities
The Archaeological Fellow will be part of a team offering dedicated archaeological services in Singapore, to conduct archaeology investigations in Singapore, process and research on archaeological material culture, and disseminate archaeological research.
Senior Archaeologist (Maritime Archaeology)
Responsibilities
– Lead research and conduct of maritime archaeology investigations, including excavations, surveys, watching briefs and documentation
– Provide specialist and technical advice on maritime archaeology issues
– Research on maritime archaeology in Singapore and the region, and disseminate reports on archaeological research
– Oversee post-excavation processing and management of excavated archaeology materials
– Work closely with relevant stakeholders on archaeological issues, which may include
~ Planning authorities – advise on archaeological technicalities and/or on conduct of research/surveys
~ Museums and Heritage Institutions – input on research, conservation, display and interpretation of
archaeology materials
~ Universities and Research Centres – input on research and education of archaeology
– Assist Head (Archaeology) in managing projects and budgets
– Manage procurement matters and records management for archaeology at the CLG
Requirements
– A Master’s (PhD preferred) degree in maritime archaeology, nautical science or relevant field
– Knowledge in Singapore archaeology and history;
– Ability and willingness to work on site under outdoor conditions
– Computer literacy (MS Office, etc., databases, knowledge of graphic programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Auto Cad, ArcGIS, QGIS, etc. will be advantageous);
– At least ten years of work experience in archaeology or related field
– Excellent oral and written English, and basic knowledge in general science and math skills;
– Strong organisational, project management, and inter-personal skills, able to work independently and as part of a team
