The Opportunity
We are seeking a proactive and motivated Heritage Officer to support the protection, management and conservation of Aboriginal, historical and maritime heritage values across Western Australia.
You will work closely with the Senior Heritage Officer and play a key role in providing cultural heritage advice, coordinating heritage due diligence activities, and supporting statutory approval processes for a diverse range of maritime, coastal and riverine projects. You will work closely with Aboriginal communities, government agencies, project teams and other stakeholders to ensure heritage considerations are effectively integrated into project planning and delivery. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the sustainable management of Western Australia’s unique heritage assets while developing your expertise in a collaborative and supportive environment.
This role offers the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that help protect cultural heritage, support community engagement, and contribute to the safe and sustainable use of the State’s coastal and maritime environments.
There is currently 1 fixed term position available for immediate filling running until 30 June 2028. Suitable applicants through this process may receive further offers of employment in this or similar roles for a period of 12 months.

The Ideal Candidate
The panel will be assessing applicants against the following suitability requirements:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the application of Commonwealth and Western Australian Aboriginal and historical heritage legislation and requirements.
- Ability to advise and assist on cultural heritage related matters.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively engage, liaise and influence a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Well-developed conceptual, problem solving and analytical abilities.
- Highly developed organisational and time management skills, and the ability to work well under pressure and meet competing deadlines.
- A sound knowledge of Aboriginal and historical heritage matters as they relate to Western Australia.
Desirable:
- Experience with Aboriginal engagement and ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with Traditional Owners.
- A relevant tertiary qualification, i.e. Heritage Studies, Anthropology, or Archaeology.
- A sound knowledge of Aboriginal and historical heritage as they relate to maritime, riverine and coastal locations.
