GDIT is seeking a U.S. Naval Historian to help support our Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Research, development & Acquisition (ASN RDA) War Rooms effort.

This is a Hybrid, in-person for teaching and War Room maintenance rest can work from home. 

As a Naval Historian for our ASN RDA War Rooms effort, you will be responsible for teaching the Historical War Rooms focused on the entire history of US Navy acquisition and procurement, including war time effectiveness of weapon systems and the relation of acquisition to the political structure of the United States. The candidate will join a team of senior professionals as a Naval Historian Subject Matter Expert supporting training of Navy and Marine Corps Acquisition Professionals, and other senior leaders and decision makers, at the Navy’s ASN/RDA Program Manager War Room complex.

In this role, a typical day will include either:

  • Teaching Program Manager and Deputy Program Manager students, who are experts in their fields, enduringlessons learned throughout the history of Naval acquisition and discussing complex issues in an open and engaging style with these knowledgeable students. Teaching is conducted in person for all scheduled events.

or:

  • Researching historical, political, academic, media, and acquisition trends and incorporating them into the relevant sections of the historical portions of the War Rooms. Research and room maintenance are done in a hybrid work arrangement.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to attain DoD Secret Level Security Clearance
  • BA/BS in History, Military History, Political Science, or another relevant field
  • 15+ years of experience in relevant fields
  • Experience instructing in an adult education environment
  • Ability to converse and debate with senior military officers and DoD career civilians and “think on your feet” in a flexible education environment where the amount of material is generally far more than can be presented in the time available

Desired Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Secret Level Security Clearance
  • Significant experience as a Naval Officer, in any warfare specialty or community
  • MA/MS in Military History, Political Science, or another relevant field
  • Graduate of a Service College (Navy/Army/Air Force/Marine Corps War College)
  • Experience instructing at a graduate education level
  • Exposure or familiarity with the DoD acquisition system
  • 15+ years of experience in Military/DoD related fields
  • 20+ years of total work experience
