Historic England is seeking proposals for projects which will mark the 50th Anniversary of the Protection of Wrecks Act (PWA) 1973, broadly coinciding with the 20th anniversary of Historic England (previously English Heritage) first administering the PWA 1973 following the introduction of the National Heritage Act 2002. The 50th anniversary of the Act provides an opportunity to frame the future of marine heritage protection by taking stock, celebrating achievements, and addressing new challenges. Historic England is inviting proposals for projects that will make the most of this opportunity by:

• Celebrating exciting discoveries, research projects and investigations relating to Protected Wrecks.
• Engaging with the public and reaching new audiences and participants.
• Reflecting on how the PWA 1973 has shaped the heritage sector and considering the implications for sector resilience in future.
• Drawing lessons from the last 50 years that can inform the next 50 years of protecting marine heritage.

All organisations and individuals are eligible to apply including community interest groups, commercial organisations, charities, local authorities and universities.
