Executive Director National Maritime Historical Society

The National Maritime Historical Society’s (NMHS) mission is to raise awareness of the nation’s maritime heritage and the role seafaring has played in shaping civilization – through publications, educational programs and maritime conferences, partnerships, and outreach events. Supported by roughly 7,000 members, NMHS has a budget of around $1M, 7 staff, and is governed by a 23-person Board of Trustees. The office is headquartered in Peekskill, New York.

The new Executive Director will be expected to build upon the significant achievements of Burchie Green, who is retiring after 19 years of leadership service.

In this context, strategic priorities for the new Executive Director include:

  • Expanding membership by bringing on board younger, more diverse members
  • Increasing revenue through operations and philanthropic support
  • Accelerating the Society’s digital/social media presence
