This Historian (Maritime) position is located in San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, in the Division of Cultural Resources and Museum Management.

Conduct historical research on various maritime topics using a wide range of resources.

Prepare historic preservation documents, compliance and background materials as required by Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), an organization’s Management Policies, and cultural resources management guidelines.

Research, analyze and write about history within the maritime framework, including topics related to individual ships, general seafaring, shipping, and the role of maritime commerce in our country’s development; prepare such written material for a wide variety of audiences.

Make presentations in parks, public gatherings, and professional meetings on historical themes and research results.

Investigate new techniques to preserve, or protect and interpret the history of cultural resources when existing methods prove insufficient.
