This a 10-week summer internship that will take place within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s, Office of Coast Survey, Hydrographic Survey Division/Pacific Hydrographic Branch. Interns will be involved with the support of populating the National Bathymetric Source (NBS). Data from the NBS will in turn be used to rescheme NOAA’s nautical charts, and the intern will work with PHB’s product team lead in high priority areas. This data will be curated and repackaged for ingest into the NBS and re-published for public dissemination at NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI).
Major duties will include, but not limited to:
- Review and edit archived hydrographic surveys & bathymetric grids.
- Work closely with the Pacific Hydrographic Branch team in completeting high priority projects.
- Collect, curate, and repackage data to be ingested into the National Bathymetric System (NBS).
- Intern will be using commercial GIS software and NOAA’s quality control tools to complete their work.
Desired knowledge, skills or abilities:
- GIS experience
- Major in Geology, Geography, Earth Sciences, Oceanography, Marine Archaeology, Hydrography, Cartography or a related field

Compensation: $16/hr
