Maritime Archaeologist

The Maritime Archaeologist will work as part of a team to plan and deliver programs to identify, monitor and assessment underwater cultural heritage sites and objects across Victoria. You will conduct research to identify, evaluate and document places and items of maritime heritage significance, as well as participate in development, implementation and review of management policies and practices, community education programs and legislative protocols to achieve the long-term protection and management of Victoria’s underwater cultural heritage.

As the successful candidate, you will possess a recognised tertiary qualification in maritime archaeology or cultural heritage management, including understanding of the occupational health and safety issues associated with underwater fieldwork. Highly desirable, you will possess a commercial diving qualification to a minimum level of ASAP Part 1, a coxswain qualification or experience in commercial vessel operations and/or a medium rigid Victorian driver’s license.
