2014 NOAA Ocean Exploration Funding for Marine Archaeology

2014 NOAA Ocean Exploration Funding, Thematic Priorities include;

Marine Archaeology: Interdisciplinary exploration, discovery, and initial documentation of significant submerged cultural heritage sites, at any water depth, including shipwrecks, submerged (previously subaerial) landscapes, aircraft, and other maritime or submerged cultural sites.

Marine Archaeology: OER supports standards for conducting marine archaeology projects and expeditions such as those enumerated in the Annex Rules of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage. Archaeological surveying must be at an appropriate resolution to detect and characterize archaeological resources (<1m).

OER supports only the early stages, i.e., search, discovery, and characterization, of archaeological investigation.

At present, OER anticipates a total of approximately $3,000,000 will be available through this announcement. Depending on specifics of proposals received, OER hopes to be able to support approximately 8-15 awards, in the amounts of $10,000 to $2,500,000, through this solicitation.

Complete, maximum two-page, pre-proposals are required for all categories and must be received by 5:00 pm (EDT) on October 15, 2013. Full proposal submissions must be received by 5:00 pm (EST) on December 20, 2013.
