Maritime History Internship
Historic New England seeks an intern for Winter/Spring 2008 to conduct and present research on maritime history related to the organization’s Hamilton House, located in South Berwick, Maine. Responsibilities will include research and development of a maritime walking tour of the Hamilton House property, which will include an overview of local maritime activity from the earliest settlement to modern times. The tour will concentrate on activity that took place on the grounds during the Hamilton occupation in the late 18th century. The intern will be responsible for developing a tour outline and a related packet of information to be used by Historic New England staff, giving the tour during the family festival “A Sailor’s Life for Me!” and possibly training seasonal staff to give the tour. Graduate and undergraduate students in history, museum studies, American and New England studies, and maritime studies are encouraged to apply. The intern will work at Historic New England’s Hamilton and Sarah Orne Jewett Houses in South Berwick, Maine, although some work will be conducted independently off-site. This internship is unpaid but may be completed for course credit. To receive application materials, contact Jennifer Pustz, Museum Historian at jpustz@historicnewengland.org or (617) 227-3957, ext. 251.
