Tetra Tech RPS Energy is adding a Marine Archaeologist to our Marine Consenting & Environment team. This role will support on client projects within the offshore wind and other offshore/coastal sectors. SEARCH has an immediate opening for a Submerged Pre-Contact Archaeologist/Geoarchaeologist to join our Offshore Wind Sector to support offshore wind projects throughout the nation. This is a full-time salaried position based out of our Pensacola, FL office, though accommodations for remote work may be considered on an individual basis depending on the candidate’s location and qualifications.

The position will be responsible for processing and interpreting marine geophysical data (including magnetometer/gradiometer side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profiler/seismic, and multibeam echosounder), with a specialization in subsurface data interpretation and paleolandscape reconstruction for the identification of ancient submerged landform features. The position also requires knowledge of the acquisition and processing of geoarchaeological cores from a marine environment, travel to various processing laboratories, and occasional monitoring on a marine survey contractor vessel during core acquisition. The candidate will have solid technical writing skills and the ability to produce reports for review by subject matter experts on behalf of federal, state, and tribal agencies under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the National Environmental Policy Act. The candidate also will be detail-oriented and organized, work well with others, and be able to work efficiently on simultaneous projects under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the highest professional image for our clients, coworkers, media, and general public;

Requirements

Qualifications Required:

  • Master’s degree in Anthropology, History, Historical Archaeology, or a related field; Experience within a maritime archaeology environment encompassing time in field, laboratory, and office (graduate field school acceptable);
  • Knowledge in the acquisition, processing, and interpretation of sub-bottom profiler/seismic data;
  • Experience with geophysical acquisition and processing software (e.g., Chesapeake Technology SonarWiz);
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite;
  • Familiarity with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (Title 54 U.S.C. § 306108) and its implementing regulations (36 CFR Part 800); and
  • Technical writing experience. 


Qualifications Preferred:

  • Background/training in sedimentology and stratigraphy, particularly in a marine environment;
  • Experience with the collection, processing, and documentation of sediment cores from submerged environments;
  • Familiarity with geologic ground models;
  • Experience engaging with Native American Tribes/Tribal Nations;
  • Proficient with S&P Global (formerly IHS Markit) Kingdom software (Seismic Direct and Geophysics) and Esri ArcGIS;
  • Magnetometer, side-scan sonar, and multibeam echosounder data acquisition, processing, and interpretation;
  • Experience preparing reports for government agency review; and
  • Familiarity with the National Environmental Policy Act (Title 42 U.S.C. § 4321 et seq.) and NEPA Substitution for Section 106 (36 CFR § 800.8).

The Ocean Protection Council (OPC) is hiring a Staff Services Manager I (Specialist) who will act as the Offshore Wind Tribal Affairs and Community Engagement Specialist to lead and foster tribal affairs and coastal community engagement related to offshore wind development in California.

The Offshore Wind Tribal Affairs and Community Engagement Specialist will be responsible for facilitating collaborative and coordinated state agency efforts to consult with California Native American tribes and engage with coastal communities, including under-served port communities, to ensure current and future offshore wind planning, construction, and avoidance and mitigation strategies reflect tribal and community needs. The incumbent will additionally support OPC’s Tribal Liaison on OPC’s broader tribal consultation and engagement efforts and will be responsible for implementation of OPC’s mission, CNRA priorities, and the Governor’s policy positions on ocean and coastal matters.

Offshore Wind Energy Roadmap Project Coordinator

The primary purpose of the position is to lead the development and implementation of an Offshore Wind Energy Roadmap for the state through a comprehensive engagement process. This position will act as the lead for the department on offshore wind energy policies, procedures, and review of proposed projects. Floating offshore wind energy, globally, is an emerging industry and a potential additional source of clean energy. There is substantial wind energy development potential in state and federal waters off the coast of Oregon. There are equally important aspects of Oregon’s oceans, ecosystems, and coastal communities that could be impacted, positively or negatively, by offshore wind energy development including the environment, fishing, Tribal cultural resources, and coastal economies. As directed by House Bill 4080 (HB 4080) in the 2024 legislative session, DLCD is responsible for working with the Governor’s office, representatives of tribal nations, other agencies, local governments, and interested parties on the completion of a Roadmap. 

A Roadmap is an opportunity for a diversity of interests in Oregon to establish a more transparent, equitable, and community-driven process for planning, siting, developing, and operating floating offshore wind energy projects and their associated infrastructure. The Roadmap Project Coordination will be responsible for leading the state to conduct an open, transparent, proactive, and comprehensive dialogue around floating offshore wind energy that represents all of Oregon’s interests in state, tribal, regional, and federal planning and decision making resulting in a Roadmap. This position will lead the implementation elements of the Roadmap that DLCD is tasked to complete including possible amendments to the Territorial Sea Plan part 5.

The Crown Estate are seeking proposals from competent archaeological experts with experience of working in the offshore environment, and in particular in delivering archaeological works and services in support of the offshore wind sector. We require a quotation for services to act as our retained archaeologist to provide The Crown Estate with relevant advice and services in relation to a programme of pre consents surveys being undertaken in the Celtic Sea to support the development of Floating Wind, the first of which being geophysical surveys.

To conduct this project, the commissioned team must possess the relevant skills, experience and knowledge about all facets of marine archaeological work provided in the context of offshore wind development. It will be necessary that the project team can demonstrate relevant knowledge and experience for all technical requirements related to the scope of works, and also the administrative abilities required to run the project and ensure appropriate reporting to the client and heritage agencies.

The resulting data will be made available to developers to support all development activities including, but not limited to, the following:

• Seabed terrain assessment and hazard identification;
• Development of preliminary integrated ground models;
• Prospective developers understanding of the general ground conditions across the site;
• Concept foundation selection and development;
• High-level geotechnical and geological risk assessment and strategy; and
• Baseline data for preparation of relevant EIA chapters.
