Maritime Archaeologist/Geoarchaeologist

R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc. (RCG&A) has an opening for a maritime archaeologist/geoarchaeologist in our Frederick, Maryland or New Orleans, Louisiana office; however, a hybrid work from home schedule will be available after 6 months of office work. This full-time, permanent position requires a master’s degree in maritime/nautical archaeology or closely related field. Experience in geophysical data collection, processing and analyses is required, as is skill in technical writing. Must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards (48 CFR 44738- 44739) and have experience in conducting high-resolution marine geophysical survey, data processing, and interpretation. Experience conducting or supporting geotechnical investigations is ideal. The candidate also should possess at least 2 years of marine project supervisory experience working in the Gulf of Mexico and along the Central Atlantic Coast. Certification and experience with commercial surface air-supplied diving systems is a plus, but not required.

Experience Requirements:

  • Proficiency working in HYPACK to plan, collect, edit, and analyze magnetometer data;
  • Proficiency collecting, editing, and analyzing magnetometer and side scan sonar data;
  • Familiarity and some experience with collecting, processing and analyzing subbottom profiler data using Hypack or SonarWiz. Kingdom software experience is a plus;
  • Must have Advanced Open Water certifications from a recognized organization (i.e., SSI, PADI, NAUI, etc.). Valid First Aid, CPR, AED, and Oxygen Administration are a plus.
  • Must be able to pass an occupational-compliant diving physical.

The ideal candidate must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential; be able to pass STCW10 and BOSIET/HUET Offshore Water Survival training.
