NAS-Tech Underwater Archaeology in Cenotes and Caves of the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

The Nautical Archaeology Society of Mexico, SubArqMx and the Gulf of California Maritime Sustainability Initiative led by Octavio Del Rio and Michael Murray are presenting an exciting unique opportunity for those interested in a career or volunteer activities in maritime archaeology and marine science. We are currently accepting applicants for a course in underwater archaeological recording methods taking place within various cenotes of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. By the end of the two-week session (see program link below), you will not only be familiar with various traditional underwater archaeological recording techniques and methodologies including how to draw up artifacts and features within cenotes and submerged caves, but also obtain rare exposure to the utilization of cutting-edge ultra-high resolution underwater laser scanning and photogrammetric techniques within this exciting context. The course venue presents a chance to record and analyze a rare submerged assemblage of prehistoric and paleontological remains along with various mayan artifacts and features. By its conclusion, the course will distinguish you among your colleagues as a valued underwater scientist and digital archaeological recorder through the issuance of a course completion certificate.
