Mizen Archaeology is Ireland’s leading underwater archaeology company, providing professional underwater and land-based services to both the public and private sector. Due to continued growth we are now seeking an additional underwater archaeologist to join our team in our office in Kinsale, Co. Cork. Key responsibilities and tasks
- Historical research and compilation of desktop studies
- Archaeological surveys of in-land waterways and maritime sites
- Archaeological monitoring of ground works on land-based, in-shore and off shore projects
- Participating in archaeological dive projects
- Archaeological excavations
- Compilation of archaeological impact assessment report
- Post-excavation work including handling, analysing, and recording waterlogged remains
Company vehicle/ mileage provided. Accommodation provided when working outside of Cork.
Requirements
Essential
- Strong academic background. Qualified to at least Degree level in Underwater Archaeology or equivalent.
- A minimum of two years’ experience in commercial underwater archaeology.
- Knowledge and understanding of Irish archaeology, planning and legislation.
- Current full driving licence with own transport.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for programmes of work.
- Excellent research and report writing skills.
- Highly motivated and flexible, with a professional and diligent attitude.
Desirable
- HSE/HSA recognized diving qualification and commercial diving experience
- Powerboat certificate
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator and 3D modeling software
