The mission of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) is to provide the fullest possible accounting for our missing personnel from our Nation’s past conflicts to their families and our Nation. DPAA personnel research, investigate, recover and identify remains of DoD personnel unaccounted for from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, the Iraq conflicts and Persian Gulf War. The DPAA Director, (SES-III) reports to the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy (USD(P)).
Your typical work assignments may include the following:
- Serves as a Deputy Laboratory Director for the DPAA Scientific Analysis Directorate. Oversees daily operations of all activities leading to scientifically valid forensic identifications produced in the DPAA Laboratory and ensures that all work products meet the requirements articulated by the DPAA Science Director/Medical Examiner.
- Manages laboratory operations and performs all supervisory duties, including leading by example, exhibiting superior technical knowledge of standard methods for scientific testing for human identification, in compliance with laws, regulations and rules.
- Manages a workplace that fosters constant improvements that result in resource savings while increasing productivity and process improvements to progress the DPAA Strategic Plan.
- Reviews scientific reports to ensure quality of presentation and accuracy of results, in a standard format that is scientifically sound and suitable for submission to a court of law.
