Underwater Archaeology and Research Diving Course

The Field School in Underwater Archaeology and Research Diving Methods is a joint program in which students may choose to enroll in HIS 396 or AFS 433. Both courses will involve similar field activities, but with different focuses. In cooperation with ECOMAR and the Institute for Archaeology in Belize, students will learn underwater research techniques, conduct underwater archaeological surveys, geophysical surveys, benthic biological surveys, site assessments, mapping of historic shipwrecks and/or underwater photography for research documentation. Students will receive a scientific diving qualification per standards set forth by the American Academy of Underwater Sciences.
