2019 Maritime Archaeology Surveying Techniques (MAST)

MAST 2019 Announcement

University of Hawaiʻi Marine Option Program in partnership with NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries will hold a maritime archaeology field school July 1 – 12, 2019 in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi.  During this two week field experience, students will learn basic underwater archaeological survey and historical research techniques from instructors, Col. Don Froning (USMC) and Dr. Hans Van Tilburg (NOAA Sanctuaries).  Our sites of interest may include various WWII era vessels which will be mapped.  All interested individuals should be fully authorized UH Scientific Divers with a 40’ depth authorization before the start of the field school current through the end of MAST.  This course has openings for 8 qualified students.  For off island students, on-campus housing is available through East-West Center Housing at a reasonable rate, go to  https://www.eastwestcenter.org/about-ewc/housing/visitor-housing – for information and reservations.
