The Schools of Ocean and Earth Science and Archaeology at the University of Southampton seeks to appoint a Research Fellow in Marine Geoscience to work with a multi-disciplinary group on the ACROSS project – Australasian Colonization Research: Origins of Seafaring to Sahul on a 2 year fixed term contract. ACROSS is focused on the earliest migrations into Australia (c. 60ka) and represents a multidisciplinary approach (including marine geological/geophysical, hydrodynamic and archaeogenetic methods), to examine the “When, Where, Who and How” of the earliest seafaring in world history. We seek a quantitative earth or ocean scientist capable of working with conventional 3D seismic data and running extant large scale ocean models to generate a series of Late Quaternary reconstructions of the Australian shelf. Training in all areas can be provided as the successful candidate will work with a multi-disciplinary team of archaeologists, geologists, oceanographers and geneticists.
