Maritime Heritage Awareness Workshop, September 9-11 and 14-16, 2010

Maritime Heritage Awareness Workshop
The Alaska Office of History and Archaeology and NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries are presenting maritime heritage awareness workshops in Anchorage (September 9-11) and Juneau (September 14-16). The training includes two days of talks about shipwreck significance, survey, mapping and conservation, and historic preservation laws. The optional third day will be comprised of field exercises at an intertidal site. The workshop is intended for recreational divers, land managers, resource enforcement officers, as well as archaeologists and historians. While a focus will be on underwater methods, no diving will be required. There is no charge for the class, but space is limited, particularly for the field exercises. Because class size is limited, a committee will choose successful applicants from each the targeted audiences described above. Send completed applications to the address provided on the form. For more information, contact Dave McMahan, 907.269.8723 or Specific venues for each location will be announced.
