Associate Curator
Connecticut River Museum, Essex, CT is seeking an Associate Curator to work with the retiring Senior Curator for one year during the installation of a long-term exhibition and re-accreditation. The Associate would then assume all curatorial duties and responsibilities including research, exhibition development and implementation, collection development, education support and collections care and management for well-focused library, mss, photo, object and small craft collections devoted to history in the Connecticut River Valley. The Connecticut River Museum is an accredited, regional museum located in historic steamboat warehouse on spectacular waterfront location. The Museum, founded in 1974, has four galleries, off-site collection storage, aggressive exhibitions and public programs schedule and a small staff. A hardworking, highly competent candidate will have a degree in American History, an advanced degree in History or Museum Studies and three to five years experience in collections management and exhibition development. A multitasking, team player with installation skills, computer competencies, speaking and writing excellence will find challenges here. Grant writing experience and a background in maritime field and/or environmental history considered a plus. First year salary ranges low to mid-30’s.
