In the summer of 2026 (August 24-29, 2026), the traditional Ship Archaeology Seminar of the Society for Ship Archaeology (in the State Association for Underwater Archaeology M-V) will be held for the 26th time.
The aim of this training series is to impart basic knowledge in the field of ship archaeology in theory and practice. The seminar is aimed at students and divers interested in archaeology who want to learn about shipwrecks not only as fascinating diving destinations, but also as particularly informative historical sources.
Over six consecutive days, the training course imparts basic knowledge in the fields of “ship archaeology and port facilities in the Baltic Sea region,” monument law, and various prospecting and documentation techniques in theory and practice.
he practical part of the course covers the basics of prospecting shipwrecks and hydraulic structures. After measurement exercises on the beach, boat and beach dives are on the program. The methods are learned on a shipwreck in Warnemünde Bay and a historic port facility.
