Imagine a future where you lead our approaches to permitting of geophysical, geotechnical, and other offshore survey methods to ensure best practices are implemented

Join us in this role where you’ll serve as an in-house expert on regulatory programs and environmental protections applicable to offshore surveys. You’ll work closely with project permitting teams, internal offshore survey managers, and QHSE, as well as regulatory agencies, contractors, and technology and innovation firms. You’ll advise projects on permitting requirements to ensure timely, cost-effective approval of survey plans and provide guidance during survey program planning, implementation, and reporting. Successful offshore surveys are critical for meeting renewable energy goals across the Americas offshore portfolio.

Welcome to Permitting, Environment, and Marine Affairs
You’ll be part of the PEMA Strategic Permitting team where you, together with your colleagues, will work to secure approvals for surveys to assess seabed conditions and resources using various technologies across multiple projects. The role will support projects in all phases, from planning and development, through to construction and operations. You’ll engage with our other departments in the US and globally, incl. offshore site investigations, asset engineering, health and safety, and government relations. As a team, we are collaborative, we share expertise and embrace innovation and lessons learned within the Americas and with colleagues globally. Our experts build strategic relationships within the organisation and externally to continuously grow our knowledge base and drive evidence-based solutions.

You’ll play an important role in:

  • advising and supporting Project and Bid teams in the planning, budgeting, and preparation of BOEM Survey Plans and Incidental Harassment Authorizations by providing regulatory updates and guidance
  • supporting permit teams to identify and prepare applications for other required approvals, such as US Army Corps of Engineers, state and federal environmental agencies, and Historic Preservation Offices
  • preparing or managing preparation and updates to training materials as needed as well as conducting training or “train the trainer” sessions for site investigation activities
  • developing and managing tools and templates to track compliance with site investigation reporting requirements and serving as POC for incident reporting and resolution with Permit teams
  • maintaining a shared portfolio-wide document management site to capture templates and processes, applications, approvals, compliance, regulations and policies, and BMPs for risk management
  • leading or representing Permitting on offshore survey workstreams, such as survey optimization, asset monitoring, UXO management, benthic monitoring, marine archaeology, and new technologies.

To succeed in the role, you:

  • hold a bachelor’s degree in environmental science or policy, geoscience, archaeology, anthropology, engineering, construction management, or related field from an accredited program
  • have 3-5 years environmental permitting experience, i.e., developing work plans, schedules, budgets, and status reports with project management experience preferred
  • understand how environmental regulations and mapping related to marine life, benthic habitats, marine archaeology, and maritime users drive permitting requirements
  • have experience with interpreting and applying local, state, and federal environmental regulations
  • have experience collaborating and communicating effectively with inter-disciplinary teams, such as permitting, site investigations, construction, QHSE, and project development/operations
  • can adapt to changing conditions and are able to work well in a fast-paced, environment within tight deadlines.
