1) Curator, Naval Undersea Museum, closes May 5
The curator reports directly to the Director, Naval Undersea Museum. The curator serves as the primary advisor and subject matter expert to the Director on all matters relating to collections research, historical research, and contemporary collecting. The curator’s four major functions consist of: 1) Collections Research and Knowledge: provides overall management and direction to the collections; 2) Historical Research: conducts research on U.S. naval undersea history, science, and operations; 3) Exhibits: develops themes, scripts, labels, and related scholarly material to support creation of temporary and permanent exhibits; 4) Contemporary Collecting: responsible for identifying, acquiring, and documenting current Navy undersea equipment and operations that have potential historical significance.
2) Museum Curator, Naval History and Heritage Command, closes May 4
This position is located in the Curatorial Management Branch of the Museums and Collections Division at the Naval History and Heritage Command. The incumbent performs a variety of routine and special technical duties in connection with the administration and distribution of the collection. Performs physical maintenance, preservation, storage, and inventory of the Naval Historical Center’s historical property collection. Performs receipt and review of prospective borrower requests for historical items and preparation of loan agreements. Assists in the identification and preservation of historically significant items from installation closures and decommissioning ships. Answers technical and general inquiries on historical properties in the collection.
3) Museum Technician, Puget Sound Navy Museum, closes May 6
This position is located in the Puget Sound Navy Museum (PSNM). The incumbent performs responsibilities and assignment directly related to education programs and educational special events at the Puget Sound Navy Museums. Plans special events, distributes invitations, schedules reservations and coordinates tours and special events for volunteers. Maintains PSNM’s master calendar and prepares institutional reports from same. Serves as a point of contact to school districts and coordinators regarding field trips and staff site visits. Develops lesson plans and coordinates programs in the galleries. Works directly with military education groups such as NJROTC. Manages PSNM’s Family Fun program.
