2 Research Fellows in Maritime Archaeology

There are two research fellow positions available, one for a 2 year fixed term contract and the other for a 5 year fixed term contract.

This project is funded by Arcadia, a charitable fund of Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin, and aims to document the maritime archaeology of the maritime and coastal regions of the Middle East and North Africa (hence MarEAMENA).

You will be undertaking research in accordance with the a remote sensing and data collection project across the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) regions under the supervision of the award holder. You will also be involved with ground survey and training programmes delivered annually across the project regions. You will also provide support to the project PI’s in successful project deliverance and developing the projects objectives.

The Department of Liberal Studies at Texas A&M University in Galveston invites applications for a tenure-track position in maritime history, broadly defined, beginning September 1, 2019. We will consider applicants from all subfields of history, but the successful candidate must be willing to align her/his scholarship to address the maritime special focus of the campus. We are looking for an engaging and committed faculty to teach two seminal courses, History of Seapower and US Maritime History, which are critical gateways to the successful retention of students across a broad group of degrees. The successful candidate will also be asked to contribute to the core curriculum in history. Applicants must demonstrate promise of distinguished scholarship and excellent teaching. A Ph.D. in History is required at the time of appointment.

Underwater Archaeologist

Duties consist primarily of underwater archaeological monitoring, excavation,and recording of submerged cultural resources in coastal and inland waters of Ireland. Expected to travel extensively and engage in diving operations.

The successful candidate should have

Degree in Underwater Archaeology or equivalent.

HSE/HSA recognized diving qualification

A minimum of 2 years experience in commercial underwater archaeology

Clean and valid driving licence with own transport

Ability to work independently and take responsibility for programmes of work

Excellent report writing skills
